This is a close up photograph of a tube with pediococcus damnosus 1colonies growing on MRS agar. Note the size of the colonies using the ruler on the page. These colonies are approximately 2 weeks old and are still quite small as compared to yeast colonies. This is a typical feature of this bacteria in that it is a slow grower and even after extended time periods the colonies do not get as large as yeast colonies. These bacteria favor anaerobic coditions and the colonies shown here were grown under a nitrogen atmosphere. Again illustrating that even under ideal conditions these bacteria are quite fastidious.
