In 1994 I won the American Homebrewers Association award for Homebrewer of the Year. The beer I won with was a lambic style ale call Wild Pseudo Lambic. Although I was and still am quite honored to have won the aw ard I have reservations about the AHA. This is an organization which in recent times has become less in touch with what many advanced and longtime homebrewers really want and need. Also they have demonstrated a lack of communication and willingness to d iscuss various issues which many of us feel are important.I have done a number of things with the AHA including writing articles and giving a presentation at the National Conference. If you choose to work with the AHA I suggest you clear your mind of any illusions as to who will be in charge and how much effo rt you will personally have to put into the work. The AHA and their magazine Zymurgy will always be oriented toward all brewers and thus any project has to be oriented towards such an audience. Also the AHA claims to be a membership organization. At thi s point in time a membership in the AHA gets you little more than a magazine subscription.
